Welcome to our Blog! Kaua’i Pacific School also known as KPS.  KPS is a small, independent elementary school on the North Shore of Kaua’i. We are committed to our core values which include 21st Century Learning, Sustainability and Global Awareness.

We were recently awarded a multi-year School of the Future Grant from the Hawaii Community Foundation and the Hawaii Association of Independent Schools. For the next five years, we will receive $45,000 per year to transform our school into a model school of the future. Throughout the state, there are 20 independent schools who share this honor. We are creating our own community of learners and working together to improve education statewide.  Each school has chosen a focus that aligns with their own mission and vision.

At KPS, we  decided to anchor our grant in digital storytelling since storytelling transcends all of the subject areas. Our school has an integrated curriculum based on units of discovery that help us tie together essential understandings and essential questions. We emphasize project and process based learning and try to use authentic assessments as often as possible.

This blog will complement our main web-site and hopefully give others a glimpse into the learning that happens at our magical school.  We hope that it helps our students become better writers, readers, thinkers and community contributors. We want our students to understand how to better connect, communicate, collaborate, and create so that they can be responsible and contributing  global & digital  citizens.   Hope you enjoy the learning journey!
